#GivingTuesday

The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.
— Mahatma Gandhi

Close your eyes….

Imagine a day dedicated to spreading love, expressing infinite sympathy, and doing irrevocable good. Imagine a day dedicated to helping millions of people, animals, and non-profit organizations worldwide. Imagine a day dedicated to humanitarian action, to cherishing the causes that truly matter. Imagine a day where you can be both humbled and enlightened, where you can both give and receive inexpressible happiness, where you can be your most selfless self.

...Now open.

This utopian day, this imagined triumph of humanity, is reality. This amazing day is called Giving Tuesday, and its 5th anniversary is only two days away. Ironically juxtaposed to materialistic celebrations such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is a breath of fresh air, reminding us what truly matters in life, reminding us that sharing our hearts brings unparalleled warmth. #GivingTuesday, fueled by the power of social media and collaboration, is a global commemoration to the beauty of giving. It harnesses our generosity and capacity to empower one another in order to bring about meaningful change in this simply complex world of ours. Through the donation of our time, resources, and talents, we can create a better future.

I wholeheartedly believe that nothing can lift one’s spirits like helping others can. I wholeheartedly believe that when we help others, we are in reality, helping ourselves even more. I wholeheartedly believe that happiness blooms from the seed of selflessness. I wholeheartedly believe that spreading kindness in the external world simultaneously creates newfound internal feelings of pride and gratitude. I wholeheartedly believe that by bettering the world, we will better ourselves.

In the days leading to Giving Tuesday, one wonderful organization that I hold near to my heart comes to mind—Project HEAL. This Giving Tuesday, Project HEAL aims to raise $50,000 in order to help eating disorder sufferers worldwide gain access to life-changing treatment as well as to fund the charitable events organized by National Ambassadors like me. This Giving Tuesday, Project HEAL hopes to make the world a safer, brighter place. This Giving Tuesday, Project HEAL is relying on our acts of kindness to accomplish this momentous, noble goal. What I find especially cool is that Johnson & Johnson will match every donation made on fundraising pages affiliated with Project HEAL. Basically, for every donation you make, Johnson & Johnson will donate that same amount. Thus, we have the remarkable ability to make double the difference.

Often, we don’t realize how lucky we are. It is human nature to take things for granted, to be blissfully unaware of the problems encountered outside of our own bubbles. However, the harsh reality is that millions of people suffer everyday from illness, poverty, starvation, and neglect. On #GivingTuesday, let us all come together to change this reality. On #GivingTuesday, let us all come together to make this world one we are genuinely proud to live in. On #GivingTuesday, let us all come together to spread our happiness to the corners & edges of the vast globe.
